Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Description:

Theodore Roosevelt National Park contains the former president's two ranches in the badlands of North Dakota. The Little Missouri River shaped the land that would in turn shape Teddy Roosevelt into the conservationist president he would become.

The Maltese Cross Cabin is open to visitors and contains several items that Theodore Roosevelt would have used when he was in residence at the Maltese Cross Ranch.

The highlight of any trip to the national park would be hiking, riding a horse, or mountain biking the 96-mile Maah Daah Hey trail that goes through both units of the national park. Mountain biking is not allowed on the trail inside the boundaries of the national park, but there is an alternative routing. There are several campgrounds along the trail.

There are other, shorter hiking trails within both units of the national park suitable for day trips.

Another idea for longer visits to the national park is to arrange a canoe or kayak trip along the Little Missouri River.
